Our Programs - Kindergarten
Oh to be in kindergarten again! Every day our young students enter a world filled with computers, books, toys, games, maps, science experiments, and limitless opportunities for creative exploration. There’s plenty of time for independent play and interactive learning, with a curriculum carefully designed for blossoming young minds. Our daily schedule always includes time for morning journals, language and letter skills, physical activity, story telling, and, of course, snack time. The eagerly-awaited Afternoon Specials enrich students’ lives with classes in Spanish, drama, art, and, on Friday’s, the program of their choice.
Curriculum guidelines cover a wide-range of subjects in all disciplines, from math and science to social studies and language arts. And yes, the science curriculum does include bugs!
An ever-changing “theme of the week” applied to all curriculum areas keeps kids engaged and intrigued in the world around them. For example, with a theme of “The Vanishing Rain Forest” students learn about conservation in science class; discover Brazil in social studies; learn to count the number of materials under the top layer of soil; and read a story about logging.
When children graduate from Chestnut Children’s Center’s kindergarten program, they leave with a love of learning, a keen sense of self, and a curiosity about the world around them.
